Blackburn Suburb Profile
The suburb of Blackburn is a quiet and peaceful suburb where you will most likely wake every morning to the sound of bellbirds, rosellas and kookaburras. The area has beautiful gum trees and surrounded by indigenous plant species. Blackburn is located in the City of Whitehorse and only about 18 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD.
Parks & Recreation
Recreation areas are aplenty. Walking trails along with other recreational activities, such as barbecuing can be found at the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary, Blackburn Creeklands Park, Gardiners Creek and the Cootamundra Walk. The Blackburn Creeklands Park features the Blacks Walk, Kalang Park and Furness Park.
Public Transport
There are several nearby shopping centres such as Forest Hill Chase and Burwood East Plaza. They can be reached by bus. There are several easily accessible bus routes and there are two railway stations – Laburnum and Blackburn, on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines.
Sports Clubs
Various sports clubs exist in Blackburn. The suburb has its own Australian Rules football team called The Blackburn Panthers.
For cricket, several clubs are in place. These are the Blackburn Cricket, Blackburn North Cricket, Blackburn South Cricket and the Laburnum Cricket Club.
Other clubs in the suburb, to name a few, are the Blackburn Soccer, Blackburn South Netball, Laburnum Netball, Blackburn Tennis and the Blackburn Vikings (basketball).
Schools
Families with school children wishing to live in Blackburn will not have a hard time finding a school as there are six available. These are the Laburnum Primary School, Blackburn Primary School, Blackburn Lake Primary School, Old Orchard Primary School, St. Thomas The Apostle Primary School and the Blackburn High School. There are also some terrific public and private schools in the neighbouring suburbs.
