Cranbourne Suburb Profile
The Cranbourne suburb is situated 43 kilometers south-east of Melbourne’s CBD with a population of 20,094 as of 2016. It is part of the City of Casery. The greater Cranbourne area spans 51,340 and consists of the North, South, East and West.
The Boonwurrung Aboriginal people were the early settlers in the area. The first European settlers arrived in 1836 who later opened the Cranbourne Inn and later the Post Office.
Most of the residents of the suburb were born in Australia. Other nationalities living here are Indians, English, New Zealanders, Afghans and Filipinos.
Recreational Facilities
Cranbourne boasts of several places of recreation. These include the Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne Racecourse & Recreation Reserve. Golf clubs are also in place such as the Cranbourne Golf Club, the Amstel Golf Club and the Ranfurlie Golf Club.
In addition to these, there are also community centers available. The Casey Complex features sports facilities, The Factory is a rehearsal center for the Arts while the Cranbourne Multicultural Community Centre has different types of pools (wave pool, main lap pool and hydrotherapy pool.
Schools
The suburb is also ideal for families with school children. The Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School is in place as well as the St. Therese’s Catholic Primary School, Cranbourne Primary School, Cranbourne North East Primary School, Cranbourne East Primary School, Lyndhurst Primary School, Marnebek School, Hillsmeade Primary School, Cranbourne Park Primary School, Cranbourne West Primary School,
Rangebank Primary School, Courtenay Gardens Primary School and Cranbourne Specialist School.
Shopping Area
The High Street is where the main Cranbourne Park Shopping Center is located. It houses the Coles Supermarket and an 8 aisle Woolworths supermarkets, and Kmart Australia, Target Australia and the JB Hi-Fi Home.
The other main shopping center is the Thompson Parkway Shopping Centre in the northern part of the suburb. Smaller centers are spread out in the area.
Bus services are available to transport commuters to the various parts of the suburb.
