Gowanbrae is a suburb of Melbourne and is part of the City of Moreland. Situated 13 kilometers north-west of the Central Business District, this area has a small population of 2,904 as of 2016. It is the newest suburb of the City of Moreland just behind the Essendon Fields.
This quiet and peaceful suburb is known as a residential area for high-income young families. Residential properties in the area range from townhouses to large family homes.
Data from the 2016 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census of Population and Housing report shows that majority or 77.8 percent of homes in Gowanbrae are separate houses. The others are semi-detached row/terrace housing and flats/apartments. Most homes have three bedrooms.
Most of the residents in the suburb were born in Australia (71.2%). Other nationalities living in the area are Italians, Sri Lankans,
Gowanbrae is accessible via Coventry Street which passes under the Tullamarine Freeway. It can also be accessed via the Calder and Hume freeways. It is also served by bus route 490 from Airport West which started in July 2008.
For recreation, the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and the Western Ring Road Trail are in place. Cyclists can also use them. There’s also a community and children’s center which offers great views of the city of Melbourne.
Those looking for a school can check out the Strathmore primary school nearby. Also close by are the Keilor Rd shops, Essendon DFO and Westfield.
