St Helena Suburb Profile
St Helena is a small suburb of Melbourne with a population of only 2,923 as of 2016. Situated 21 kilometers north-east of the CBD, it
belongs to the local government area of the City of Banyule.
One of the renowned settlers of the area was Anthony Beale. It was in 1830s when he travelled to the Port Phillip district of New South Wales and later settled on the Plenty River including the area called St Helena. The area was later called St Helena after the name of the Beales’ cottage.
Housing development in the area commenced in the middle to late 1980s.
A shopping center is in place at the St Helena Marketplace. It houses a Woolsworth supermarket, fast food chains, and smaller retailers.
Families looking for schools are in luck as several educational facilities in the suburb. In fact, real estate experts confirm the area is in demand due to its close proximity to schools. These schools include St Helena Secondary College, Glen Katherine Primary School, Holy Trinity Primary School and Plenty Valley International Montessori School.
When it comes to sports, the St Helena Saints Basketball Club represents the suburb in the field of basketball. The team trains at St Helena Secondary basketball stadium.
St Helena can be reached via train, bus, taxi, car or towncar. Bus lines 905 and 901 are available to transport you to the suburb.
