When buying a home, it is strongly recommended that buyers check all the areas of the property to ensure that you are aware of its condition including the not-so-good signs. A residential property is a valuable investment and you don’t want to waste your money on one that you would only regret owning later on.
Do find time to inspect the interior and exterior of the home you are targeting to buy. But before you go to the property for its open house, you need to be aware of the things to look for.
Below are some of the disgusting things you should watch out for. These signs are a major turn off for most potential buyers.
Moulds and Mildew
The bathroom is sometimes taken for granted when inspecting a home. But you need to check for signs of mould and mildew on the walls and even window-sills.
Stench
An unpleasant odor that greets you in the house you want to become your home is never a good sign. Common stenches that turn off people include that of cigarettes, cat’s pee and greasy food.
Clutter
Clutter is always an eyesore and a turnoff. Whether this is evident in the some parts of the house and in the backyard, this signals an unorganized and unclean home.
Peeling Paint
Old paint can peel off any time and some buyers who see peeling paint easily get discouraged. Who wouldn’t if all you want is to buy a house you’re ready to live in?
Pets
The presence of pets also scare or turn off some homebuyers. They’re not ideal for families with kids who are not comfortable with pets and they are a health hazard for people who have allergies and asthma.
While these signs are a common turnoff to most home buyers, they can attract some people particularly investors looking to buy a property and renovate it to sell again for a profit. They are usually particular about the main framework of the house and are not bothered by these details that can distract their attention.
But whichever type of individual you are, what’s important is you take the time to check a property’s condition inside and out before making a final decision.
