Melbourne faced a large volume of auctions again on Saturday with more than a thousand properties achieving a clearance rate of 68 percent, slightly down from last weekend’s 72 percent. The number of scheduled auctions jumped to 1,406 from only 312 during the Labour Day long weekend.
The number of reported auctions was 1,094 while the total number of properties sold was 758. Total sales recorded was more than $625,751,000 while the median price was $855,000.
One suburb in Melbourne that continues to attract elite buyers is Toorak. Considered as the most expensive suburb in the area, the suburb boats of great city views particularly from homes situated on the hills. Mansions including the Toorak House are also common in the suburb although many of their owners are now downsizing and living in apartments on the same street. Other factors that make the suburb attractive are its old and quite people, safety of its population, tree-lined streets, accessibility and presence of schools.
In Mt Waverley, meanwhile, more buyers were noted to be holding back at auctions and allowing properties to pass in. According to local agents, more properties are bought after auctions. Demand for housing in the area is average and so far, 28 auction sales have been recorded this year.
