The prospect of selling or buying a house during the cold and wet winter months doesn’t tend to have us leaping off the couch with anticipation. But in actual fact winter can be a great time for vendors and buyers to be successful in the property market.
If you’re selling during winter you’re more likely to have serious buyers at your open inspections and less of the local sticky-beakers. Also, less properties on the market gives YOU an advantage.
Make your open home feel warm and welcoming to prospective buyers on cold winter days. Create a cosy glow by switching on table lamps, bathroom heat lamps and your fireplace or heater. Dress your living areas and bedrooms with snuggly throw rugs, extra pillows and cushions and floor rugs to create a sense of warmth and comfort.
If you’re a winter buyer you’ll find less crowds at open inspections and possibly less competition at auctions. You can inspect homes in all their naked glory – not shrouded in trees and blossoming gardens. You’ll get a good appreciation for northern aspects and you can see for yourself if there are pockets of poor drainage in the garden, damp rooms, or leaky gutters, downpipes or roofs.
If you’re selling or buying this winter, talk to us about ways to get the best result no matter the weather.
