Real estate comparison site GetAgent has analysed global search terms by second-home property buyers to determine the most popular cities in the world for purchasing a second property.
Australia featured strongly in the list, with four Australian capital cities ranked in the top ten locations.
In first place was Gold Coast, loved worldwide for its sunny surf beaches, warm weather and theme park family fun.
Melbourne, frequently acclaimed as one of the world’s most liveable cities, stormed home in 2nd place. Close to 45,000 global searches in the past year were for second homes and holiday homes in Melbourne.
Adelaide made the top ten in 6th place with 24,800 searches and Perth came close behind in 7th place with 22,800 searches.
The list of the top ten most searched locations for second properties comprised:

- Melbourne
- York
- Cape Town
- Malaga
- Adelaide
- Perth
- Auckland
- Edinburgh
- Inverness
