The week ending 29th August delivered a clearance rate of 99% from the 223 auctions reported for the period (based on REIV data). At the same time last year, there were just 41 auctions reported.
100 homes sold at auction last week and another 120 sold prior to auction, with 2 passed in. 441 properties were withdrawn from sale and 634 auctions were postponed.
As Melissa Heagney reported on the weekend, Melbourne’s real estate market will enter the 2021 spring season in lockdown. Twelve months ago, we were in the midst of our second wave and had a long way to go before restrictions eventually eased in late October.
We can only hope that, in the weeks ahead, we’ll see a swift return to low case numbers. When live auctions and property inspections are finally given the green light, we can expect to see a surge in activity as buyers and sellers get back to bidding on the streets of Melbourne.
