In September 2023 Victoria’s Labor Government released a package of policies designed to overcome the statewide housing shortage and housing affordability problems. This ‘Housing Statement’ is being implemented in conjunction with the Albanese Government’s goal to build 1.2 million dwellings nationwide.
Victoria has the ambitious target of building 800,000 new homes across Victoria by 2034.

The Department of Transport and Planning has established a case management team to assist local councils with planning decisions in a timely manner. By working collaboratively with developers, councils and agencies, the case management team aims to expedite the development of residential projects by providing independent support to projects with (a) costs greater than $10 million and (b) over six months within the planning system to date.
